Framtíðarpælingar

Ég var að lesa áhugaverða áramótagrein frá fyrrverandi deildarstjóranum mínum í LHÍ, þar sem hann fjallar um hvernig stefnir í að framtíðin komi til með að þróast miðað við það sem á undan hefur gengið. Áhugavert já.

In the early days of the new Icelandic design faculty we started discussing ethics for designers, something very current when I started my architectural education in the seventies. We introduced courses in ethics and sustainability. Through developing a formal education in those fields we started to develop interesting connections between design and social responsibility. Not that this is something new! Social design and social responsive solutions have always been fundamental in design and especially in architecture. For example the Modernists wanting to sanitize society with cleanness, simple forms and living in healthy environment. But the crazy cool-design driven 80's and 90's mostly ignored these issues and form, image and the spectacle became the selling point for capitalism and the servants: designers and architects. So, where are we today? What has changed?
